This next review has been one of our FAVORITES this year!
Drive Thru History® has brand new series called Drive Thru History® – “TheGospels”. This one caught the attention of everyone in our house!
If you have never heard of Drive Thru History® or have not seen
one of their terrific productions, you need to get on that right away. They are
just plain cool. Part of the appeal of “The Gospels” is host, Dave Stotts.
Dave and his team take off on an adventure tour of over 50
ancient historical sites in Israel. We
are given not a historical account of the birth, life, death and
resurrection of Jesus according to the Gospels. Most importantly, the true message and
meaning is not buried beneath facts and timelines.
The set contains three disks with a total of 18 episodes.
Each episode is not over 30 minutes each.
The episodes are:
The Historical Landscape
The Announcements
Jesus is Born
Jesus Grows Up
Jesus Starts His Ministry
Jesus Returns to Galilee
Jesus Begins His Miracles
Jesus Teaches with Authority
The Sermon on the Mount
Jesus Travels the Sea of Galilee
Jesus Travels North with His Apostles
A Final Trip to Jerusalem
Jesus Arrives in Jerusalem
The Last Supper
The Trail of Jesus
The Crucifixion of Jesus
The Resurrection of Jesus
Who is Jesus?
Along with all this video awesomeness is a 118 page study guide. The study guide contains key scriptures for
each episode, additional pictures, Bible readings and study questions. There is
additional historical information not found in the episodes.
How We Used It
I was pretty excited to get my package in the mail. As it
was we had company the day it came, but that didn’t stop us from sticking the
first disc into our DVD player! My pastor husband was almost insistent.
Thankfully, we all enjoyed not only the first episode, but
the second as well. And this was before we all sat down to lunch!
After that, I decided I was to get further use out of
them by using them as our history AND Bible lessons each day. We set aside
our study on Nehemiah and plugged into the Gospels.
Oh yes we did! I can tell you that history was never so much fun. We felt like we were there riding along with Dave in his trusty, but borrowed Land Rover.
I could have used the wonderful study guide for additional
helps and discussions, but I didn’t. Frankly, the episodes stand alone and
provide so much material for discussion and further reflection. What made it
all so much more enjoyable was the more recent Lenten and Easter season. Our
church doesn’t actively participate in Lent, but Josiah and The Muffin attended
several community services over the Lenten season.
We also have been doing an in-depth study of the book of
John on Wednesday nights at church so this couldn’t have been a perfect time to
fully immerse ourselves in Drive Thru History®.
“The Gospels” (the series) are rich in historical information,
Geographical discoveries and true Biblical truths. I think they are suitable
and appropriate for all ages.
They are stunningly produced. I particularly loved the bits
that looked like actual art pieces floating on the natural countryside. It was
a scrapbook in 3d! And Dave Stotts is priceless! He has a great sense of humor
and keeps everyone’s attention.
We used them as a family and homeschool resource, but I can
see them being used in a small group/Bible study setting. They are completely
appropriate for a mixed crowd and will appeal to all demographics and ages.
This is one of those products I can see us using time and time again! It is well worth the investment!
